These boxes are loaded with DC fuses, DC isolators and cable glands. They are used to protect multiple parallel strings in solar arrays. There are standard DIN rails for mounting fuse holders or terminals.

DC Isolators. Kraus & Naimer

The DC isolator is the safest means of manual isolation between PV arrays and inverters. It is suitable for all grid-tied and off-grid installations. The DC switch is installed close to the inverter. As a rule of thumb, the switch voltage rating is calculated if you multiply the 1.15 x Voc open circuit voltage of the string. The current rating is 1.25 x Isc the string Isc short circuit. 

AC Isolator. Kraus & Naimer

All solar installations must have one of these switches. They provide the perfect means of manually isolating the solar inverter from the AC supply (Grid Voltage) or your AC loads if we are referring to an off-grid system. The right position for the AC isolator is next to the consumer unit.
