Description
xVoltasol ESS 5.5kW Hybrid Inverter | 48V | Pylontech BMS | On-Grid and Off-Grid
The Voltasol ESS 5500W is a single-phase hybrid inverter and battery charger designed specifically for energy storage systems with Pylontech lithium batteries. 5.5kW continuous output, 100A solar charger, BMS compatible with Pylontech US3000C and US5000C (and legacy US2000C), with energy meter and Modbus card pre-installed. Manufactured and supported by Voltacon.
Key Features
- 5500W continuous single-phase output: higher than the 3600W limit of many comparable hybrid inverters
- BMS compatible with Pylontech US3000C, US5000C, and legacy US2000C batteries
- Enhanced 100A AC and solar charger
- Scalable lithium battery expansion: add Pylontech modules as needed
- Pure sine wave output
- Programmable supply priority: PV, Battery, or Grid
- Programmable operating modes: grid-tie, off-grid, grid-tie with backup
- Export adjustable from 0W to 5500W
- Timer charger: schedule grid charging at economy tariff rates
- Multiple communications: USB, RS232, Modbus, SNMP, GPRS, Wi-Fi
- Energy meter and Modbus card pre-installed
Product Overview
The Voltasol ESS platform is designed around efficient integration with Pylontech lithium battery banks. The pre-installed BMS communication cards handle battery management automatically, adjusting charge and discharge parameters to protect cell health and maximise battery cycle life.
The 5.5kW continuous output is a practical advantage over hybrid inverters limited to 3.6kW, as it can supply heavier domestic loads such as electric showers, ovens, and heat pumps directly from solar and battery without being restricted by inverter capacity.
Export control is fully adjustable. If the property has no export agreement or the DNO requires zero export, the inverter can be configured to stop at 0W. Where export is permitted, the level can be set to any value up to the full 5500W.

Operating Modes
- Off-grid with grid as backup source
- Hybrid: inverter and grid supply AC loads simultaneously
- Export to grid: adjustable from 0W to 5500W
- Split supply: AC loads on grid plus critical loads off-grid, combined 5.5kW capacity
- Timer charging: scheduled AC charging from grid at low-tariff periods

Installation and Safety Notes
Must be installed by a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited solar installer. Battery systems must comply with BS EN 62619 and local building regulations. Correct cable sizing, fusing, DC and AC isolators, and earthing are essential. Grid connection requires G98 notification or G99 application. Do not attempt DIY installation of hybrid inverter and battery systems.
