Description
xVictron VE Transfer Switch 5kVA, 1 Phase, 200-250Vac
The Victron VE Transfer Switch is a single-phase automatic transfer switch rated at 5kVA, designed for use in off-grid, backup and marine or vehicle power systems. It switches between two AC sources, such as shore power and an inverter, ensuring the correct source is connected to the load at any given time. Intended for professional installation in systems where reliable AC source switching is required.
Key Features
- 5kVA rated capacity suitable for single-phase AC loads up to the rated limit
- Operating voltage range of 200 to 250Vac, compatible with standard European and UK grid voltage
- Single-phase configuration for residential, off-grid and mobile power applications
- Automatic switching between two AC sources without manual intervention
- Compact and lightweight at 1.85kg, suitable for panel or enclosure mounting
- Designed to integrate with Victron inverter/charger systems as part of a wider power installation
Product Overview
A transfer switch is a critical component in any system that has more than one AC source. The VE Transfer Switch automatically selects between two inputs, typically a primary source such as mains or shore power and a secondary source such as a generator or inverter output. When the primary source fails or is disconnected, the switch transfers the load to the secondary source. This prevents backfeed and ensures only one source is connected to the load at a time.
The 5kVA rating determines the maximum continuous load the switch can handle. At 230Vac, this corresponds to approximately 21.7A, which is sufficient for most residential off-grid loads, boat or motorhome installations, and light commercial backup applications. The 200 to 250Vac input range covers standard single-phase supply voltages across the UK and EU without adjustment.
This unit is part of the Victron VE product range and is designed to work alongside Victron MultiPlus and Quattro inverter/chargers, though its function as a transfer switch is not limited to those systems. It provides a clean, reliable switching path between sources and is built to Victron's standard for professional power system components.

Installation Notes
This transfer switch must be installed by a qualified electrician. It involves connection to live AC sources and must be wired in accordance with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and any applicable local regulations. For grid-connected systems in the UK, ensure compliance with G98 or G99 requirements as appropriate to the installation. Do not install in a location exposed to moisture unless housed in a suitably rated enclosure. Verify that the total connected load does not exceed the 5kVA rated capacity of the switch.
