Description
xVictron Solar Cable 20m / 6mm² with MC4 Male/Female Connectors (PV-ST01)
This is a pre-assembled 20-metre solar DC cable from Victron Energy, supplied with MC4-compatible male and female connectors (PV-ST01 type) fitted at each end. It is intended for connecting solar panels to charge controllers, combiner boxes or other DC system components in both off-grid and grid-tied installations.
Key Features
- 20-metre length provides sufficient reach for most roof-to-inverter or panel-to-combiner runs without the need for additional joins.
- 6mm² cross-section conductor is suited to higher-current PV string runs, reducing resistive losses over longer cable distances.
- MC4-compatible male and female connectors (PV-ST01) are pre-fitted, allowing direct plug-in connection to standard MC4 panel leads.
- Solar-rated cable construction is designed for outdoor UV exposure, temperature cycling and the DC voltage levels present in PV systems.
- Single-cable assembly with one male and one female end simplifies polarity management during installation.
- Supplied by Victron Energy, ensuring consistent build quality and compatibility with Victron system components.
Product Overview
Solar DC cabling is a frequent source of system losses and faults when undersized or poorly terminated. A 6mm² conductor at 20 metres keeps voltage drop within acceptable limits for string currents typically seen in residential and light commercial PV arrays. Pre-fitted MC4-compatible connectors remove the need for field crimping, which reduces the risk of poorly terminated joints that can cause arcing or increased resistance over time.
The PV-ST01 connector type used here is a widely adopted MC4-compatible format, compatible with the panel leads found on the majority of crystalline and thin-film modules. The cable itself is rated for direct outdoor exposure, with insulation and jacketing appropriate for the UV intensity, temperature range and DC voltage levels found in rooftop and ground-mount PV installations.
At 3kg, this 20-metre assembly is straightforward to handle and route on site. It is suitable for use as an extension lead between a panel string and a charge controller or inverter input, or as a run between a combiner box and the main DC distribution point.

Installation Notes
DC solar cabling should be installed by a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited installer. Ensure the cable rating is appropriate for the maximum open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current of the connected PV array before installation. Do not mix MC4-compatible connectors from different manufacturers in the same circuit, as dimensional tolerances can vary and may result in poor contact or ingress protection. Verify that the conductor cross-section is adequate for the system's maximum current and cable run length to keep voltage drop within acceptable limits. For grid-connected systems, all DC wiring must comply with the relevant requirements of BS 7671 and any applicable G98 or G99 connection agreement.
