Description
xVictron SmartShunt 2000A/50mV IP65
The Victron SmartShunt 2000A/50mV IP65 is a standalone battery monitor designed for high-current applications where accurate state-of-charge tracking is essential. It connects to the Victron Connect app via Bluetooth, making it suitable for off-grid systems, large battery banks, and commercial installations where a dedicated display unit is not required.
Key Features
- 2000A continuous current rating with a 50mV shunt drop, suitable for large battery banks and high-draw systems.
- IP65-rated enclosure provides protection against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets, allowing installation in exposed or outdoor-adjacent locations.
- Bluetooth connectivity built in, with full monitoring and configuration available through the Victron Connect app on iOS and Android.
- Monitors state of charge, voltage, current, power, consumed amp-hours, and time remaining on the battery.
- Supports a wide range of battery chemistries including lead-acid (AGM, gel, flooded) and lithium (LiFePO4).
- VE.Direct port allows integration with the Victron ecosystem, including GX devices, MPPT solar chargers, and Venus OS installations.
- No display unit required: all data is accessible via the Victron Connect app, reducing installation complexity and cost.
Product Overview
The SmartShunt functions as a drop-in battery monitor by measuring the voltage drop across a precision shunt resistor to calculate current flow. At 2000A, this unit is rated for systems well beyond typical residential scale, covering large off-grid installations, marine vessels with high electrical loads, and commercial battery storage setups. The 50mV shunt drop is a standard value that balances measurement accuracy with acceptable power dissipation at high currents.
The IP65 rating distinguishes this model from the standard SmartShunt range. It means the unit can be installed in locations subject to dust and occasional water spray, such as engine rooms, battery compartments with poor ventilation, or outdoor enclosures. This makes it a practical choice where a standard IP20 or unrated unit would not be appropriate.
Integration with the Victron ecosystem is handled through the VE.Direct port. When connected to a Cerbo GX or other GX device, the SmartShunt feeds battery data into the Venus OS dashboard and can be monitored remotely via the VRM portal. This makes it a reliable data source in larger multi-device installations rather than a standalone instrument only.

Installation Notes
The SmartShunt must be installed in the negative battery cable between the battery negative terminal and all other negative connections in the system. Incorrect wiring will produce inaccurate readings. At 2000A, the associated cabling, fusing, and busbar connections must be rated appropriately for the system's maximum current. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced system integrator familiar with high-current DC systems. For systems incorporating lithium batteries or grid-connected elements, ensure all relevant safety and compliance requirements are met before commissioning.
