Description
xVictron Smart IP43 Charger 12/50(3) 120-240V
The Victron Smart IP43 Charger 12/50(3) is a three-output, 50-amp mains battery charger designed for 12V battery banks. It accepts a wide input voltage range of 120 to 240V AC, making it suitable for use across the UK, Europe and North America. It is aimed at professional installers, marine and vehicle applications, and off-grid systems where reliable, multi-bank charging is required.
Key Features
- 50A total charge current across three independent outputs, allowing simultaneous charging of up to three separate 12V battery banks.
- Wide AC input range of 120 to 240V makes the unit compatible with both UK/EU and North American mains supplies.
- Bluetooth built-in via Victron's VictronConnect app, enabling wireless monitoring and configuration from a smartphone or tablet.
- IP43 ingress protection rating, providing resistance to solid objects over 1mm and water spray from any direction up to 60 degrees from vertical.
- Adaptive four-stage charging algorithm (bulk, absorption, float, storage) with automatic battery type selection for lead-acid chemistries including AGM, gel and flooded.
- Lithium battery charging support with a dedicated Li-ion charge profile.
- Temperature-compensated charging when used with an optional Victron temperature sensor, protecting battery life in variable ambient conditions.
- Weight of 3.7kg in a compact form factor suited to installation in confined spaces such as engine rooms, lockers and vehicle bays.
Product Overview
The Smart IP43 Charger uses a microprocessor-controlled adaptive charging algorithm. In bulk phase, the charger delivers maximum current to bring the battery up to voltage quickly. Absorption phase then holds voltage constant while current tapers off, and float maintains the battery at full charge without overcharging. A storage mode reduces float voltage further for long-term battery care when the system is left unattended.
The three-output design is a practical advantage in installations where a starter battery, a domestic or house bank, and a third auxiliary bank all need to be maintained independently. Each output is isolated, so the charger manages each bank according to its own state of charge rather than averaging across a combined load. This is particularly relevant in marine and motorhome installations where battery banks serve different functions and may be at different states of charge.
Bluetooth connectivity via VictronConnect removes the need for a dedicated display or wired monitoring connection during commissioning and routine checks. Charge profiles, absorption time and other parameters can be adjusted directly from the app. The IP43 rating is appropriate for installations in partially protected environments but the unit should not be exposed to direct rain or full immersion.

Installation Notes
Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person familiar with DC battery systems and mains AC wiring. Ensure the AC supply is correctly fused and that all DC output connections are appropriately rated for 50A continuous current. The unit accepts 120 to 240V AC input, but verify local supply compatibility before installation. For lithium battery installations, confirm the battery management system (BMS) is compatible with external chargers before connecting. The IP43 rating provides limited water resistance; install in a sheltered location away from direct water ingress. Do not install in a sealed, unventilated enclosure as the unit generates heat during operation.
