Description
xVictron Smart IP43 Charger 12/50(1+1) 120-240V
The Victron Smart IP43 Charger 12/50(1+1) is a three-stage mains battery charger rated at 50A for a 12V battery bank, with a second 4A output for a starter or auxiliary battery. It accepts a wide 120-240V AC input, making it suitable for use across the UK, EU and North America. Designed for professional marine, vehicle and off-grid installations where reliable, programmable charging is required.
Key Features
- 50A primary output for 12V battery banks, with a dedicated 1+1 second output providing 4A to a separate starter or auxiliary battery simultaneously.
- Wide AC input range of 120-240V allows use on shore power, generators and international supplies without modification.
- Bluetooth built-in via Victron SmartNetwork: configure charge algorithms, monitor state of charge and update firmware wirelessly using the VictronConnect app.
- IP43 rated enclosure: protected against solid objects over 1mm and against water spray up to 60 degrees from vertical, suitable for engine rooms and sheltered outdoor installations.
- Adaptive three-stage charging (bulk, absorption, float) with optional storage mode to maintain batteries during long lay-up periods.
- Compatible with lead-acid battery types including GEL, AGM, tubular plate and flooded, as well as lithium LiFePO4 batteries with a suitable BMS.
- Temperature-compensated charging via optional remote temperature sensor to protect batteries in variable ambient conditions.
- Synchronises with other Victron Smart chargers on the same SmartNetwork for coordinated multi-charger installations.
Product Overview
The IP43 rating places this charger in a practical middle ground for professional installations. It is not fully waterproof, but it handles the condensation, spray and dust exposure typical of a boat engine room, motorhome battery bay or workshop environment. The aluminium housing dissipates heat effectively, which matters at 50A continuous output where thermal management directly affects charger longevity.
The 1+1 output configuration means the charger simultaneously maintains a second battery, typically a starter battery, at a controlled 4A rate. This removes the need for a separate trickle charger and keeps the starting circuit ready without risk of overcharging. The primary and secondary outputs are isolated from each other, so batteries of different states of charge do not interfere with one another.
Bluetooth connectivity through the VictronConnect app gives installers direct access to charge algorithm settings, real-time voltage and current data, and historical charge logs. The charger can be assigned to a SmartNetwork alongside Victron BMV battery monitors and other Smart chargers, allowing coordinated charging across a multi-bank system without additional wiring.

Installation Notes
This charger should be installed by a qualified electrician or marine electrical engineer. Ensure the AC supply is protected by an appropriately rated circuit breaker and that the installation complies with BS 7671 (IEE Wiring Regulations) for land-based systems or the relevant marine wiring standard for vessel installations. The unit accepts 120-240V AC, but confirm the supply frequency and voltage at the installation site before connecting. Use correctly rated DC cabling between the charger and battery bank to minimise voltage drop at 50A. If connecting to LiFePO4 batteries, verify that the BMS is compatible with the charger's charge profile before commissioning.
