Description
xVictron Skylla-TG 48/50 Battery Charger 230V
The Victron Skylla-TG 48/50 is a high-power 48V battery charger rated at 50A output, designed for demanding professional and industrial applications. It is built for continuous-duty use in environments where reliable, high-current charging is required. Suitable for large battery banks in off-grid, marine, and backup power installations.
Key Features
- 48V nominal battery voltage with 50A output current for high-capacity battery banks.
- Single-phase 230V AC input for straightforward connection to standard mains or generator supplies.
- Four-stage adaptive charging algorithm: bulk, absorption, float, and storage.
- Temperature-compensated charging adjusts output voltage based on battery temperature to protect cell life.
- Adjustable charge voltage and current settings to suit different battery chemistries and bank sizes.
- Compact and robust metal enclosure rated for industrial environments, weighing 10 kg.
- Remote on/off and charge current control via external signal input.
Product Overview
The Skylla-TG series is Victron's range of transformer-based high-power chargers. Unlike switch-mode chargers, the transformer-based design provides galvanic isolation between the AC input and DC output, which is a requirement in many marine and industrial installations. The 48/50 variant delivers 50A into a 48V battery bank, making it suitable for large lead-acid or gel battery systems where fast, controlled recharging is a priority.
The four-stage charging profile manages the full charge cycle automatically. During bulk, the charger delivers maximum current. Absorption holds voltage constant while current tapers. Float maintains the battery at full charge without overcharging. The storage mode reduces float voltage further for batteries left on standby for extended periods. Temperature compensation adjusts the absorption and float voltages based on a connected battery temperature sensor, which is particularly important in installations subject to wide ambient temperature variation.
Remote control inputs allow the charger to be integrated into larger system control schemes, including generator start/stop logic or building management systems. Charge current can be reduced remotely to manage generator loading or shore power limits.

Installation Notes
Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited installer. The unit connects to a 230V single-phase AC supply and must be protected by an appropriately rated circuit breaker. DC output connections to the battery bank must be correctly fused and sized for 50A continuous current. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit. For marine installations, verify that the galvanic isolation meets the requirements of the relevant classification society or standard. A battery temperature sensor is recommended to enable temperature-compensated charging, particularly in installations with significant ambient temperature variation.
