Description
xVictron Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 230V VE.Bus Inverter Charger
The Victron Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 is a 5000VA inverter charger designed for 12V battery systems with dual AC input capability. It is built for off-grid installations, marine and vehicle applications, and backup power systems where two separate AC sources (such as shore power and a generator) need to be managed automatically. The Quattro handles source switching, battery charging and AC output in a single unit.
Key Features
- 5000VA continuous inverter output at 230V AC, suitable for high-load off-grid and backup applications.
- Dual AC input with automatic transfer switching: accepts two independent AC sources simultaneously, such as mains and a generator, and switches between them without interruption.
- 220A battery charger with adaptive charging algorithm, adjustable for different battery chemistries including lead-acid and lithium.
- Two AC outputs: AC-Out-1 remains live when the inverter is running; AC-Out-2 disconnects when running on battery, allowing non-essential loads to be shed automatically.
- VE.Bus communication interface for system integration, remote monitoring, parallel operation and three-phase configuration.
- PowerControl and PowerAssist functions limit the draw from AC input and supplement it with battery power when loads exceed the input current limit.
- Supports parallel and three-phase operation: multiple Quattro units can be combined to increase capacity or create a three-phase system.
- Programmable relay and comprehensive protection: over-temperature, overload, short circuit and battery low voltage shutdown.
Product Overview
The Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 operates from a 12V DC battery bank and delivers up to 5000VA of AC output at 230V. The 220A charger is one of the highest-rated chargers available in this voltage class, which matters in systems where fast battery recovery between generator runs is a priority. The adaptive four-stage charging algorithm (bulk, absorption, float, storage) extends battery life and works across a wide range of lead-acid types as well as lithium batteries when configured correctly via VE.Configure software.
The dual AC input is a defining feature of the Quattro range. Input 1 is typically connected to shore power or mains; Input 2 to a generator. The unit monitors both sources and switches automatically based on availability and programmable priority settings. The 100A pass-through rating on each input means the Quattro can handle substantial AC loads directly from the source without routing them through the inverter, reducing heat and improving efficiency. PowerAssist allows the unit to supplement a limited AC source (for example, a small generator or a shore supply with a low current limit) with battery power, preventing the source from being overloaded.
VE.Bus connectivity enables integration with the Victron GX device ecosystem (Cerbo GX, Color Control GX) for full system monitoring and control. Multiple Quattro units can be configured in parallel for increased output capacity, or in split- and three-phase arrangements for commercial or large off-grid installations. At 36.5kg, this is a substantial unit and requires secure, ventilated mounting in a suitable enclosure or battery compartment.

What Is Included
- 1x Victron Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 230V VE.Bus inverter charger unit
Installation Notes
The Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 must be installed by a qualified electrician or accredited installer. At 12V and 5000VA, the DC cable currents involved are extremely high and require correctly rated, short-run DC cabling with appropriate fusing. AC connections to mains or generator supplies must comply with current UK wiring regulations (BS 7671). For any grid-connected or export-capable configuration, G98 or G99 compliance and DNO notification requirements must be assessed by a qualified engineer. Battery chemistry and capacity settings must be configured correctly using Victron's VE.Configure software before commissioning. Adequate ventilation around the unit is essential given its size and thermal output.
