Description
xVictron Orion XS 1400 DC-DC Battery Charger (Non-Isolated)
The Victron Orion XS 1400 is a non-isolated DC-DC battery charger for 12V and 24V systems: 9 to 35V in, 10 to 35V out, so it covers 12/12, 12/24, 24/12 and 24/24 dual-battery systems in vehicles, boats and off-grid installations. It delivers up to 50A of charge current, which is 1400W into a 24V battery and around 700W into a 12V one, making it well suited to professional mobile and marine applications where a secondary battery bank needs reliable, high-current charging from the alternator or main battery.
Key Features
- Non-isolated DC-DC architecture for 12V and 24V systems: 9 to 35V input, 10 to 35V output (12/12, 12/24, 24/12 and 24/24).
- Up to 50A charge current: 1400W into a 24V battery, around 700W into a 12V battery.
- Compatible with a wide range of battery chemistries including lithium (LiFePO4), AGM, gel and lead-acid.
- Protects the starter battery with engine shutdown detection and a configurable input voltage lockout. Current is adjustable from 1 to 50A.
- Compact and lightweight at 0.52 kg, with an IP65 housing and up to 98.5% efficiency.
- Built-in Bluetooth for setup, monitoring and firmware updates in the VictronConnect app, plus a VE.Direct port for a GX device and VRM.
- Firmware v1.15 adds an emergency reverse charge: it can charge a flat starter battery from the auxiliary battery, with a selectable 12V or 24V starter battery.
- Suitable for use in dual-battery systems where both banks share a common negative (non-isolated topology).
Product Overview
The Orion XS 1400 sits within Victron's Orion XS range, which is built specifically for high-power DC-DC battery-to-battery charging. Unlike basic voltage-sensitive relays or simple DC-DC converters, the Orion XS applies a proper multi-stage charge algorithm to the secondary battery, ensuring it reaches full charge rather than just a partial state of charge dictated by the source voltage.
The non-isolated design means the input and output share a common ground. This is appropriate for most vehicle and marine installations where both batteries are referenced to the same chassis or hull ground. If electrical isolation between the two battery banks is required, a different product from the isolated Orion range would be needed. For the majority of standard dual-battery setups, the non-isolated topology is both sufficient and more efficient.
At up to 50A and 1400W, this unit is one of the higher-output options in the Orion XS range, capable of delivering substantial charge current to a lithium or lead-acid auxiliary bank during transit. This is particularly relevant for campervans, HGVs, commercial vehicles and larger leisure craft where battery capacity has grown beyond what lower-power DC-DC chargers can keep up with.

Installation Notes
The Orion XS 1400 should be installed by a qualified auto-electrician or marine electrician familiar with high-current DC systems. At 1400W, cable sizing, fusing and connection quality are critical to safe operation. The non-isolated topology requires both battery banks to share a common negative; verify this is the case before installation. For lithium battery installations, confirm the charge profile settings via VictronConnect before commissioning. This product is not intended for grid-connected or AC-coupled applications.
