Description
xVictron Orion XS 12/12-50A DC-DC Battery Charger (Non-Isolated)
The Victron Orion XS 12/12-50A is a non-isolated DC-DC battery charger designed for 12V to 12V charging applications in vehicles, boats and off-grid systems. It delivers up to 50A of charge current, making it well suited to professional dual-battery and lithium battery installations where a reliable, high-current DC-DC charger is required.
Key Features
- 50A continuous charge current from a 12V source to a 12V battery bank.
- Non-isolated design allows direct integration into shared-negative electrical systems.
- Compatible with lead-acid (AGM, gel, flooded) and lithium (LiFePO4) battery chemistries.
- Compact and lightweight at 0.35 kg, suitable for space-constrained installations.
- Victron VE.Direct port for monitoring and configuration via the VictronConnect app.
- Adaptive charge algorithm with bulk, absorption and float stages for correct battery conditioning.
- Wide input voltage range to handle alternator voltage fluctuations without interruption.
Product Overview
The Orion XS 12/12-50A sits in Victron's non-isolated DC-DC converter range. Non-isolated units share a common ground between input and output, which suits the majority of vehicle and marine installations where the chassis or hull serves as the negative return. The 50A output is a significant step up from smaller DC-DC chargers and allows faster charging of secondary battery banks, including large-capacity lithium packs used in campervan, motorhome and marine applications.
Configuration is handled through the VictronConnect app over Bluetooth or via the VE.Direct port. Charge profiles can be adjusted to match the connected battery chemistry, and the unit will correctly manage absorption voltage and float voltage without manual intervention. This removes the guesswork from dual-battery installations and ensures the secondary battery is not overcharged or undercharged over time.
At 0.35 kg, the Orion XS is notably compact for its output rating. This makes it practical to mount in tight spaces such as under seats, in battery compartments or within electrical enclosures where larger units would not fit.

Installation Notes
The Orion XS 12/12-50A is a non-isolated unit and requires a shared negative between the input and output circuits. Installation should be carried out by a qualified auto-electrician or marine electrician familiar with DC battery systems. Correct cable sizing and fusing at both the input and output are essential given the 50A operating current. For lithium battery installations, verify that the battery management system (BMS) is compatible with the charger's charge profile settings before commissioning.
