Description
xOrion-Tr Smart 24/12-30A (360W) Isolated DC-DC Charger — ORI241236120
The Victron Orion-Tr Smart 24/12-30A is a galvanically isolated DC-DC charger designed to charge a 12V service battery from a 24V vehicle or system supply. It is suited to professional vehicle conversions, marine installations, and off-grid systems where two battery banks must be kept electrically separate. The unit is Bluetooth-enabled and integrates with the VictronConnect app for configuration and monitoring.
Key Features
- 360W continuous output power with a 30A charge current at 12V output.
- Galvanic isolation between input and output, preventing ground loops and protecting sensitive electronics.
- Built-in Bluetooth with VictronConnect app support for remote configuration, monitoring and firmware updates.
- Input voltage range of 24V nominal, compatible with standard 24V lead-acid and lithium battery systems.
- Adaptive charge algorithm supports flooded, gel, AGM and lithium (LiFePO4) battery chemistries on the output side.
- Engine detection function prevents discharging the starter battery by monitoring input voltage before enabling charge output.
- Compact, wall-mountable enclosure weighing 1.8 kg, suitable for installation in confined spaces.
Product Overview
The Orion-Tr Smart uses a high-frequency transformer to provide full galvanic isolation between the 24V input and 12V output. This is particularly important in vehicles and boats where chassis grounds from two different battery systems can create damaging ground loops or introduce noise into audio and navigation equipment. Unlike simple DC-DC converters, the isolated design means the two battery banks share no electrical path other than the intended charge current.
The engine detection feature monitors the input voltage and only enables the charger output once the voltage rises above a configurable threshold, indicating that the alternator is running. This prevents the service battery from drawing down the starter battery when the engine is off. The threshold is fully adjustable via VictronConnect, making it compatible with both standard and smart alternator systems commonly found in modern vehicles.
VictronConnect provides access to charge algorithm settings, battery type selection, absorption and float voltages, and real-time current and voltage readings. The unit can also be integrated into a wider Victron system using a VE.Direct connection, allowing data to be fed into a GX device or Cerbo GX for centralised monitoring.

Installation Notes
Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced system integrator familiar with DC wiring practices. Ensure cable sizing is appropriate for the input current draw at 24V and the 30A output. The unit must be mounted in a ventilated location away from direct water ingress. For marine installations, follow NMEA or relevant classification society wiring guidelines. Configure the engine detection threshold via VictronConnect before commissioning to suit the specific alternator and battery system in use.
