Description
xVictron Orion-Tr 48/48-2.5A (120W) Isolated DC-DC Converter
The Victron Orion-Tr 48/48-2.5A is a galvanically isolated DC-DC converter designed to step between 48V sources and 48V loads where electrical isolation between circuits is required. At 120W continuous output, it suits professional installations where ground loop elimination, noise reduction, or circuit separation is a priority.
Key Features
- Galvanic isolation between input and output, eliminating ground loops and preventing interference between circuits.
- 48V input to 48V output configuration, suitable for same-voltage systems requiring electrical separation.
- 120W continuous output power at 2.5A output current.
- Wide input voltage range typical of the Orion-Tr series, accommodating real-world battery voltage fluctuations.
- Compact and lightweight at 0.5kg, suitable for installation in confined spaces or enclosures.
- Fixed output voltage with no need for external regulation in standard applications.
- Designed for use in 48V telecom, off-grid, marine and vehicle systems where circuit isolation is a wiring or safety requirement.
Product Overview
Galvanic isolation in a DC-DC converter means the input and output circuits share no direct electrical connection. This matters in practice when two 48V systems share a common chassis or negative rail but must remain electrically independent, for example when connecting a 48V house battery bank to a 48V auxiliary load that must not share a ground reference with the main system. Without isolation, ground loops can introduce noise, cause measurement errors, or create fault paths that are difficult to diagnose.
The Orion-Tr range uses a high-frequency transformer internally to achieve this isolation while maintaining a stable output voltage. The 48/48-2.5A variant is the appropriate choice when the source and load voltages are nominally identical but the circuits must remain separated. It is not a voltage regulator in the traditional sense; it is a power transfer device with isolation as its primary function. At 120W, it covers a range of auxiliary loads including control systems, communications equipment, and instrumentation.
The unit is built to Victron's standard for DC conversion products, with protection against short circuit, over-temperature and reverse polarity on the input. It integrates straightforwardly into existing 48V architectures without requiring additional filtering or conditioning in most applications.

What Is Included
- 1x Victron Orion-Tr 48/48-2.5A (120W) Isolated DC-DC Converter
Installation Notes
Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or systems integrator familiar with DC power systems. Ensure correct fusing on both the input and output sides in accordance with the wire gauge used. In marine applications, follow NMEA or flag-state wiring standards for isolated circuits. Verify that the input voltage range of the unit is compatible with the actual operating voltage of your battery system, including charge voltages at the top of the charge cycle. Do not exceed the rated output current of 2.5A continuously.
