Description
xVictron Orion-Tr 24/12-5A (60W) Non-Isolated DC-DC Converter
The Victron Orion-Tr 24/12-5A is a non-isolated DC-DC converter that steps down a 24V supply to a regulated 12V output at up to 5A (60W). It is designed for mobile, marine and off-grid applications where two different DC voltage rails need to coexist within the same system.
Key Features
- Converts 24V DC input to 12V DC output at up to 5A continuous, providing 60W of regulated power.
- Non-isolated design: input and output share a common ground, which suits most vehicle and marine installations where chassis earth is shared.
- Wide input voltage range accommodates real-world battery voltage fluctuations across 24V systems.
- Compact and lightweight at 90g, making it straightforward to mount in tight enclosures or behind panels.
- Fixed output voltage set for 12V, suitable for powering 12V accessories, control circuits or auxiliary loads from a 24V bank.
- Retail packaging includes connection terminals, ready for direct installation without additional hardware.
Product Overview
The Orion-Tr range uses a switch-mode topology to convert DC voltages efficiently, avoiding the heat and energy waste associated with linear regulators. The 24/12-5A model is the entry-level unit in the non-isolated Orion-Tr series, suited to lower-power loads such as 12V instrumentation, lighting circuits, control electronics or small accessories fed from a 24V battery system.
Because this converter is non-isolated, the negative terminals of the input and output are connected internally. This is entirely appropriate for the majority of vehicle, caravan, motorhome and boat installations where a common chassis or hull ground is used throughout. If galvanic isolation between the two voltage rails is required (for example, in certain marine installations with separate earth systems), the isolated Orion-Tr variant should be selected instead.
The unit is part of Victron's broader Orion-Tr family, which spans a wide range of input/output voltage combinations and power ratings. All models share the same compact form factor and screw-terminal connections, making them straightforward to integrate into existing DC distribution boards or custom wiring harnesses.

Installation Notes
This converter should be installed by a competent 12/24V DC electrician or qualified auto-electrician familiar with vehicle or marine wiring standards. Ensure the input wiring is correctly fused close to the source battery. As this is a non-isolated unit, do not use it in applications where the input and output grounds must be kept separate. Verify that the 60W output rating is sufficient for the intended load before installation, and allow adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent thermal derating.
