Description
xVictron MultiPlus-II 12/5000/220-50 230V Inverter Charger
The Victron MultiPlus-II 12/5000/220-50 is a combined inverter and battery charger designed for 12V battery systems requiring up to 5000VA of continuous AC output at 230V. It is suited to off-grid installations, marine and vehicle applications, and backup power systems where a single, integrated unit is preferred over separate components.
Key Features
- 5000VA continuous inverter output at 230V AC from a 12V DC battery bank.
- 220A battery charger built in, allowing fast recharge from a generator or shore power.
- 50A AC transfer switch with near-instant switchover, maintaining supply to connected loads during a mains or generator failure.
- PowerControl function limits the total current drawn from a shore power or generator supply, preventing overload of the AC source.
- PowerAssist function supplements the AC input with inverter power when load demand exceeds the available input current.
- Two AC outputs: AC-Out-1 remains live during a power cut; AC-Out-2 is disconnected when the unit runs on battery, allowing non-essential loads to be shed automatically.
- Compatible with Victron VE.Bus for system integration, remote monitoring and configuration via VictronConnect or Venus OS devices.
- Supports parallel and three-phase operation when multiple units are used together.
Product Overview
The MultiPlus-II combines a true sine wave inverter, a multi-stage battery charger and an AC transfer switch in a single enclosure. The 12V input makes it appropriate for systems built around 12V lithium or AGM battery banks, which are common in marine, vehicle and smaller off-grid installations. At 5000VA, it can handle substantial loads including air conditioning units, power tools and multiple domestic appliances simultaneously.
The 220A charge current is notably high for a 12V unit. In practice, this allows a large battery bank to be recharged quickly from a generator, reducing generator run time. The PowerControl and PowerAssist functions are particularly useful where the AC input is current-limited, such as a marina shore power pedestal or a small generator. PowerControl caps the draw from the source; PowerAssist makes up any shortfall from the battery, so the full rated load can still be supplied without tripping the source breaker.
The dual AC output configuration is a practical feature for installations with a mix of critical and non-critical loads. AC-Out-1 is always live when the unit is operating; AC-Out-2 drops out when the unit switches to battery, which can be used to disconnect loads such as water heaters or battery chargers for other equipment. Configuration and firmware updates are handled via VE.Bus using a MK3-USB interface or a compatible GX device.

- Large motorhomes and expedition vehicles with high AC load requirements.
- Backup power systems for critical loads in commercial or agricultural premises.
- Generator-assisted off-grid systems where PowerAssist reduces generator run time and fuel costs.
What Is Included
- 1x Victron MultiPlus-II 12/5000/220-50 230V inverter charger unit.
Installation Notes
The MultiPlus-II 12/5000/220-50 operates at high DC currents from a 12V battery bank. Correct cable sizing, fusing and busbar connections are critical at this power level. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited installer with experience in battery-based inverter systems. For any grid-connected or generator-connected application in the UK, ensure compliance with the relevant wiring regulations and that all AC connections are made by a competent person. Configuration via VE.Bus requires a MK3-USB adapter or a compatible GX device. Battery compatibility, including lithium battery profiles, should be confirmed and set correctly before commissioning.
