Description
xVictron MultiPlus Compact 12/1600/70-16 230V VE.Bus Inverter Charger
The Victron MultiPlus Compact 12/1600/70-16 is a combined inverter and battery charger in a single unit, designed for 12V DC systems with 230V AC output. It is suited to marine, vehicle, off-grid and backup power installations where space is limited and reliable AC power is required from a battery bank.
Key Features
- 1600VA continuous inverter output at 230V AC from a 12V DC battery bank.
- 70A multi-stage battery charger with adaptive charge algorithm, adjusting to battery condition over time.
- 16A AC transfer switch for seamless changeover between shore/generator power and inverter output.
- PowerControl function limits AC input current draw, preventing overload of a shore power or generator supply.
- PowerAssist function supplements AC input with battery power during peak demand, allowing a smaller generator or shore connection to be used.
- VE.Bus communication interface for system integration, remote monitoring and configuration via Victron GX devices or VEConfigure software.
- Compact form factor at 11.5 kg, suitable for installations with restricted mounting space.
- Supports parallel and three-phase operation when multiple units are used together.
Product Overview
The MultiPlus Compact combines a true sine wave inverter with a high-current battery charger and an AC transfer switch. When an AC source such as shore power or a generator is connected, the unit charges the battery bank and passes AC through to connected loads. If the AC source is lost or disconnected, the transfer switch activates within 20 milliseconds, maintaining power to critical loads without interruption.
The 70A charger uses Victron's adaptive four-stage algorithm (bulk, absorption, float, storage), which adjusts absorption time based on the previous discharge. This reduces unnecessary charge time and extends battery life over repeated cycles. The charger is suitable for lead-acid battery types including flooded, AGM and gel, and can be configured for lithium batteries via VEConfigure.
VE.Bus connectivity allows the MultiPlus Compact to be integrated into larger Victron systems. It can be monitored and controlled through a Victron GX device (such as the Cerbo GX), and configured remotely via VRM. Multiple units can be connected in parallel for increased capacity, or configured for split-phase or three-phase output where the installation requires it.

Installation Notes
Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited installer with experience in DC battery systems and 230V AC wiring. The unit must be connected to an appropriately rated 12V battery bank with correctly sized DC cabling and fusing. For any grid-connected or shore-power applications in the UK, ensure compliance with current wiring regulations. Configuration of battery type, charge parameters and system settings should be performed using Victron's VEConfigure software before commissioning.
