Description
xVictron MultiPlus 48/1600/20-16 230V VE.Bus Inverter Charger
The Victron MultiPlus 48/1600/20-16 is a combined inverter and battery charger in a single unit, designed for 48V battery systems operating at 230V AC. It is suited to off-grid installations, backup power systems and marine or vehicle applications where a compact, reliable inverter charger is required.
Key Features
- 1600VA inverter output with a 48V DC input, compatible with 48V lead-acid and lithium battery banks.
- 20A battery charger built in, with a three-stage adaptive charging algorithm to suit a range of battery chemistries.
- 16A AC transfer switch allows the unit to pass through shore power or generator input and switch to inverter operation when mains supply is lost.
- VE.Bus communication interface enables parallel and three-phase configuration with additional MultiPlus units, and full integration with Victron GX devices.
- PowerAssist function supplements shore or generator power with battery power when AC load demand exceeds the available input current.
- 230V AC output suitable for standard UK and European single-phase loads.
- Compact and wall-mountable design with a weight of 10 kg.
Product Overview
The MultiPlus 48/1600/20-16 combines inverter, charger and transfer switch functions in one enclosure. When AC input is available, the unit charges the battery bank and passes power through to connected loads. If the AC input fails or is disconnected, the transfer switch operates in under 20 milliseconds, maintaining supply to critical loads without interruption.
The VE.Bus interface is a key feature for system scalability. Multiple MultiPlus units can be connected in parallel to increase output capacity, or configured for split-phase or three-phase operation. When paired with a Victron Cerbo GX or other GX device, the unit integrates fully into the VRM monitoring platform, giving installers and end users remote visibility of system performance.
The built-in PowerAssist function is particularly useful in installations where the available shore power or generator capacity is limited. The unit monitors AC input current and, when loads approach the set limit, draws the balance from the battery bank rather than tripping the supply. This allows a smaller generator or limited shore connection to support larger loads.

What Is Included
- 1 x Victron MultiPlus 48/1600/20-16 230V VE.Bus inverter charger unit
Installation Notes
Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited installer familiar with DC battery systems and AC wiring regulations. The MultiPlus operates at 48V DC, which requires correct cable sizing, fusing and battery connection practices. For any grid-connected or generator-tied application, ensure compliance with applicable UK wiring regulations and, where relevant, G98 or G99 requirements. VE.Bus configuration and system setup should be performed using Victron's VEConfigure software. Do not install in enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation.
