Description
xVictron Energy Lead Carbon Battery 12V 106Ah (M8)
The Victron Energy Lead Carbon Battery 12V/106Ah is a deep-cycle battery designed for solar energy storage, off-grid systems and backup power applications. Lead carbon technology improves charge acceptance and cycle life compared to standard lead-acid batteries, making it a practical choice for systems that experience regular partial-state-of-charge cycling. The M8 threaded insert terminals provide a secure, vibration-resistant connection suited to professional installations.
Key Features
- Lead carbon chemistry improves charge acceptance and extends cycle life compared to conventional VRLA or AGM batteries.
- 12V nominal voltage with 106Ah capacity, suitable for use in 12V systems or series/parallel configurations for higher voltage banks.
- M8 threaded insert terminals provide a firm, reliable mechanical connection for cable lugs and bus bar connections.
- Deep-cycle design tolerates regular discharge and recharge cycles, including partial-state-of-charge operation common in solar applications.
- 35.5 kg weight reflects a robust, full-capacity lead carbon cell construction.
- Compatible with Victron charge controllers, inverter/chargers and battery monitors that support lead-acid battery profiles.
Product Overview
Lead carbon batteries incorporate carbon additives into the negative plate of a standard lead-acid cell. This reduces sulphation during partial-state-of-charge cycling, which is one of the primary causes of premature failure in solar storage applications where batteries are rarely fully charged before the next discharge cycle begins. The result is a battery that maintains capacity more consistently over its service life compared to a conventional flooded or AGM equivalent.
The 106Ah capacity at 12V gives approximately 1.27kWh of total energy storage. In practice, usable capacity will depend on the depth of discharge limits set in the charge controller or inverter/charger. For lead carbon batteries, a depth of discharge of 50% is a common conservative setting, giving around 630Wh of usable energy per cycle. The M8 threaded inserts are preferable to bolt-through terminals in installations where cables are routed under load, as they hold torque more consistently over time.
These batteries are manufactured by Victron Energy and are fully compatible with the Victron ecosystem, including MPPT charge controllers with lead-acid battery presets, MultiPlus and Quattro inverter/chargers, and the BMV and SmartShunt battery monitors. They can be configured in series for 24V or 48V systems, or in parallel to increase capacity at 12V.

Installation Notes
Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced solar installer. Batteries of this weight (35.5 kg) require appropriate manual handling precautions and should be installed in a ventilated enclosure suitable for lead-acid chemistry. Ensure all cabling is correctly rated for the system's maximum current, and that M8 terminal bolts are torqued to the manufacturer's specification. For solar PV systems connected to the grid, ensure the installation complies with G98 or G99 requirements as applicable. Do not mix battery chemistries or capacities within the same bank.
