Description
xGX WiFi Module Long Range (Netgear AC1200)
The GX WiFi Module Long Range is a USB WiFi adapter based on the Netgear AC1200 chipset, designed to extend wireless connectivity for Victron GX devices. It is intended for installations where the standard onboard WiFi signal is insufficient to reach the router or access point, such as in marine, vehicle or remote off-grid sites.
Key Features
- Based on the Netgear AC1200 chipset, providing dual-band 802.11ac WiFi at up to 1200 Mbps combined throughput.
- Long-range USB WiFi adapter designed to improve wireless signal reach compared to the built-in GX WiFi antenna.
- Compatible with Victron GX devices including the Cerbo GX, Color Control GX and other GX-series products that support USB WiFi adapters.
- Plug-and-play USB connection: no additional drivers or configuration software required on supported GX firmware versions.
- Compact and lightweight at 118 g, suitable for space-constrained installations.
- Enables remote monitoring and system management via VRM Portal where a strong wired Ethernet connection is not practical.
Product Overview
Victron GX devices include onboard WiFi, but in practice the signal range can be limited by enclosure placement, bulkheads, or distance from the access point. This adapter plugs into a spare USB port on the GX device and replaces or supplements the built-in wireless connection with a higher-gain antenna, improving the likelihood of maintaining a stable link to the local network.
The AC1200 designation refers to dual-band operation across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, with a combined theoretical throughput of 1200 Mbps. For GX monitoring purposes the bandwidth requirement is modest, so the primary benefit here is range and signal reliability rather than raw speed. The adapter is recognised automatically by current Victron Venus OS firmware, which simplifies deployment on site.
Once connected to the local network, the GX device can push data to the Victron VRM Portal for remote monitoring, firmware updates and system configuration. This is particularly useful on sites where running an Ethernet cable to the GX device is impractical.

- Marine installations where the GX device is mounted below deck or in an enclosed panel, away from the router or access point.
- Vehicle and motorhome systems where WiFi signal penetration through metalwork reduces the range of the built-in antenna.
- Off-grid cabins and remote sites where the router is located at a distance from the battery or inverter enclosure.
- Any GX installation where a stable WiFi connection to VRM is required but Ethernet cabling is not feasible.
What Is Included

Installation Notes
Plug the adapter into a free USB port on a compatible Victron GX device running a current version of Venus OS. Verify compatibility with your specific GX device and firmware version before installation. No specialist electrical qualification is required to connect this adapter, but the wider GX system and any associated inverter, battery or solar equipment should be installed and commissioned by a qualified electrician or accredited installer.
