Description
xVictron Galvanic Isolator VDI-32 A
The Victron Galvanic Isolator VDI-32 A protects boats and vessels connected to shore power from galvanic corrosion. It breaks the DC electrical path between the shore power earth and the vessel earth while still maintaining a safe AC protective earth connection. It is intended for marine installers and boat owners using a 32 A shore power connection.
Key Features
- Rated for shore power connections up to 32 A.
- Blocks DC galvanic current between shore earth and vessel earth, reducing corrosion of underwater metal fittings.
- Maintains the AC protective earth connection required for electrical safety.
- Compact enclosure weighing 2.3 kg, suitable for installation in tight cable runs near the shore power inlet.
- No moving parts and no external power supply required for operation.
Product Overview
Galvanic corrosion occurs when small DC voltage differences exist between the earth systems of a marina supply and a moored vessel. This current flows through the water and through underwater metal components such as propellers, shafts and fittings, causing them to corrode. A galvanic isolator interrupts this DC path while allowing the AC earth connection to remain intact, which is required for the shore power system to function safely.
The VDI-32 A is fitted in the earth conductor of the shore power cable, between the inlet and the vessel's AC distribution system. It is a passive component with no controls or indicators to monitor, and it operates continuously once wired in. Installers working on marine AC systems should size the isolator to match the vessel's shore power current rating, in this case up to 32 A.
Specifications
- SKU: GDI000032000
- Current rating: 32 A
- Weight: 2.3 kg
- GTIN: 8719076022381
Applications
- Marina berths and shore power connections on sailing and motor vessels.
- Retrofitting existing AC shore power installations where corrosion of underwater metal fittings has been observed.
- New build marine electrical installations with a 32 A shore power inlet.
What Is Included
- 1 x Victron Galvanic Isolator VDI-32 A
Installation Notes
The galvanic isolator must be fitted in the AC earth conductor by a qualified marine electrician. Incorrect installation can compromise the protective earth connection and create a safety hazard. Confirm the vessel's shore power current draw does not exceed 32 A before fitting this unit.
