Description
xVictron EasyPlus Compact 12/1600/70-16 230V VE.Bus Inverter Charger
The Victron EasyPlus Compact 12/1600/70-16 is a combined inverter and battery charger in a single compact unit, designed for 12V DC systems with a 230V AC output. It is suited to marine, vehicle, off-grid and backup power installations where space is limited but reliable AC power and battery charging are both required.
Key Features
- 1600VA continuous inverter output at 230V AC from a 12V DC battery bank.
- 70A three-stage battery charger built in, suitable for lead-acid and lithium battery chemistries.
- 16A AC transfer switch allows connection to shore power or a generator, with automatic switchover.
- VE.Bus communication port enables system integration, remote monitoring and parallel or three-phase configuration with compatible Victron units.
- Compact form factor reduces installation footprint compared to standard MultiPlus units of equivalent rating.
- PowerControl and PowerAssist functions prevent overloading a limited AC source by drawing supplementary power from the battery when demand exceeds the input limit.
- Configurable via VE.Bus Smart Dongle or MK3-USB interface for fine-tuning charge parameters and transfer thresholds.
Product Overview
The EasyPlus Compact sits within Victron's MultiPlus family and shares the same core inverter-charger architecture. The 12/1600/70-16 designation indicates a 12V battery input, 1600VA inverter output, 70A charger and a 16A AC input current rating. The compact enclosure makes it practical for installations in engine rooms, under-bunk lockers, vehicle conversions and small off-grid cabins where a full-size MultiPlus would not fit.
The 70A charger is a meaningful specification for a 12V system. At 12V, 70A equates to roughly 840W of charging power, which allows a depleted 200Ah battery bank to reach a usable state of charge within a few hours when connected to shore power or a generator. The three-stage adaptive charging algorithm (bulk, absorption, float) is appropriate for AGM, gel and flooded lead-acid batteries, and the unit can also be configured for lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries with the correct charge profile settings.
VE.Bus is Victron's proprietary communication bus that connects inverter-chargers, system monitors and control panels. Through VE.Bus, the EasyPlus Compact can be monitored and controlled via a Victron Color Control GX or Cerbo GX, integrated into a larger Victron system, or configured remotely. PowerAssist is particularly useful in marina or campsite hookup scenarios where the available AC supply is limited: the unit supplements the incoming AC with battery power to handle short-term load peaks without tripping the shore power breaker.

- Victron EasyPlus Compact 12/1600/70-16 230V VE.Bus inverter-charger unit.
Installation Notes
This unit operates at 12V DC with high current battery connections and produces 230V AC output. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person familiar with both DC battery systems and 230V AC wiring. For any grid-connected or shore-power-connected installation in the UK, wiring must comply with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations). Marine installations should follow the relevant BMEA or ISO standards. VE.Bus configuration requires the Victron MK3-USB interface or a compatible GX device. Do not connect to the public grid without confirming the applicable grid connection requirements with your Distribution Network Operator.
