Description
xVictron Centaur Charger 24V/40A (3 Outputs) 120-240V
The Victron Centaur Charger 24/40 is a three-output, mains-powered battery charger designed for professional and commercial applications where multiple battery banks need reliable, automatic charging from a single unit. Rated at 40 amps on a 24V system, it accepts a wide AC input range of 120 to 240V, making it suitable for both UK and international installations.
Key Features
- 40A output on 24V with three independent output channels for charging separate battery banks simultaneously.
- Wide AC input voltage range of 120 to 240V accommodates varying mains supplies without manual adjustment.
- Adaptive four-stage charging algorithm (bulk, absorption, float, storage) automatically adjusts to battery condition.
- Temperature-compensated charging via optional sensor input, protecting batteries in variable ambient conditions.
- Suitable for lead-acid battery types including flooded, gel and AGM.
- Microprocessor-controlled with automatic restart after AC supply interruption.
- Housed in a robust metal enclosure with a weight of 12kg, built for fixed installation in marine, vehicle and industrial environments.
Product Overview
The Centaur range sits in Victron's professional charger lineup, positioned above basic single-output units and designed for installations where more than one battery bank must be maintained. The three-output configuration allows a primary bank to receive the full 40A charge current while secondary outputs maintain auxiliary or starter batteries. This is particularly useful on vessels, large vehicles and off-grid installations where separate battery banks serve different loads.
The adaptive charging algorithm monitors battery voltage and adjusts charge current and voltage throughout the cycle. This prevents overcharging during absorption and keeps batteries in good condition during extended periods on float or storage mode. The wide input voltage range means the unit functions correctly on both 120V North American supplies and 230-240V European and UK mains, which is useful for equipment that moves between territories or for installations with non-standard supply voltages.
At 12kg, the Centaur 24/40 is a substantial unit intended for permanent, fixed installation rather than portable use. The metal enclosure provides adequate protection for engine room, battery compartment and industrial cabinet mounting.

Installation Notes
The Centaur 24/40 must be connected to a correctly fused and earthed AC mains supply by a qualified electrician. DC output connections to battery banks should be appropriately rated and fused. In marine installations, wiring must comply with applicable marine electrical standards. Where the unit is connected to a generator supply, ensure the generator output voltage and frequency are within the charger's specified input range before energising. Installation should be carried out by a competent professional familiar with battery charging systems and DC electrical installations.
