Description
xVictron BMV-712 BLACK Smart Battery Monitor (Retail)
The Victron BMV-712 BLACK Smart is a precision battery monitor designed for professional solar, off-grid and marine installations. It measures state of charge, voltage, current, power and consumed amp-hours, transmitting data via built-in Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app. The black finish suits installations where aesthetics matter alongside function.
Key Features
- Built-in Bluetooth for direct connection to the VictronConnect app on iOS and Android, with no dongle required.
- Measures battery state of charge (%), voltage, current (amps), power (watts) and consumed amp-hours.
- Monitors a second voltage input, suitable for tracking a starter battery or solar panel voltage alongside the main bank.
- Programmable relay output that can trigger on state of charge, voltage or temperature thresholds.
- High-contrast backlit display with clear readout of all key parameters directly on the unit.
- Compatible with all battery chemistries including lead-acid (AGM, gel, flooded) and lithium (LiFePO4).
- Supplied as a retail kit including the shunt, cabling and display unit, ready for installation.
Product Overview
The BMV-712 uses a precision shunt to measure all current flowing in and out of the battery bank. From this, it calculates state of charge using a Peukert-corrected algorithm that accounts for charge efficiency and self-discharge. This gives a far more accurate picture of remaining capacity than a simple voltage reading, which is particularly important for lithium batteries where the voltage curve is relatively flat across most of the charge range.
The integrated Bluetooth module connects directly to the VictronConnect app, where you can view live data, configure all parameters and review historical trends including deepest discharge, average discharge and number of charge cycles. The BMV-712 also integrates with the wider Victron ecosystem: it can be connected to a GX device (such as the Cerbo GX) for system-level monitoring and remote access via VRM. The programmable relay adds a layer of protection automation, allowing the unit to disconnect loads or trigger an alarm based on configurable thresholds.
The black version is functionally identical to the standard silver BMV-712 Smart. It is the retail-packaged variant, supplied with all accessories needed for a complete installation.

Installation Notes
The BMV-712 shunt must be installed on the negative side of the battery bank, with all negative loads and charge sources connected to the load side of the shunt. Incorrect wiring will produce inaccurate readings. While the unit itself is low-voltage and does not require specialist certification to install, it is typically fitted as part of a wider battery or solar system. For any grid-connected or high-voltage battery installations, use a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited installer. Ensure the battery chemistry and capacity settings are correctly configured in VictronConnect before commissioning.
