Description
xVictron Energy BMV-702 Battery Monitor (Black)
The Victron BMV-702 is a precision battery monitor designed for 12V, 24V and 48V battery systems. It measures state of charge, voltage, current, power consumption and time remaining, giving installers and system operators accurate, real-time data on battery health and usage. It is suited to off-grid solar, marine, motorhome and backup power installations where reliable battery monitoring is essential.
Key Features
- Displays state of charge (%), voltage, current (amps), consumed amp-hours, instantaneous power (watts) and time remaining.
- Compatible with 12V, 24V and 48V battery systems, including lead-acid (AGM, gel, flooded) and lithium chemistries.
- High-accuracy current measurement via a dedicated 500A shunt (included), with a resolution of 10mA for precise low-current readings.
- Programmable relay output that can trigger alarms or control external devices based on configurable thresholds.
- Backlit display with intuitive button navigation; no smartphone or app required for basic operation.
- Bluetooth connectivity available via optional VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle, enabling monitoring through the Victron Connect app.
- VE.Direct port for integration with Victron GX devices, MPPT solar charge controllers and other compatible equipment.
- Black housing finish for installations where aesthetics matter, such as yacht interiors or motorhome cabins.
Product Overview
The BMV-702 builds on the original BMV-700 by adding a second voltage input, which allows simultaneous monitoring of a starter battery or mid-point voltage in a series battery bank. This is particularly useful on marine and vehicle installations where the house bank and starter battery need to be watched independently. The second input does not require an additional shunt; it connects directly to the terminal.
Accurate state of charge calculation depends on correctly configured battery capacity and charge efficiency settings. The BMV-702 allows full customisation of these parameters, including Peukert exponent and charge efficiency factor, so readings remain accurate across different battery chemistries and usage patterns. The programmable relay can be set to activate on low state of charge, low voltage, high voltage or other conditions, making it straightforward to wire in an alarm or automatic load disconnect.
The VE.Direct port means the BMV-702 integrates directly into a Victron system managed by a Cerbo GX or Venus GX, where its data appears on the system overview alongside solar yield, inverter status and grid information. This makes it a practical choice for any Victron-based installation rather than a standalone instrument.

Installation Notes
The BMV-702 shunt must be installed on the negative conductor of the battery bank, with all loads and charge sources connected to the load side of the shunt. Incorrect wiring will produce inaccurate readings. While the unit itself is low voltage and does not require specialist certification to install, it is typically fitted as part of a wider battery or solar system. For any installation involving mains-connected inverters, grid-tied equipment or high-capacity lithium battery systems, a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited installer should carry out the work. Ensure the battery chemistry and capacity settings are correctly programmed after installation to achieve accurate state of charge readings.
