Description
xVictron BlueSolar MPPT 250/70-Tr VE.Can Solar Charge Controller
The Victron BlueSolar MPPT 250/70-Tr VE.Can is a high-voltage MPPT solar charge controller designed for professional off-grid and large battery charging installations. It accepts a maximum PV open-circuit voltage of 250V and delivers up to 70A of charge current, making it suited to larger solar arrays where a single controller needs to handle significant generation capacity. The VE.Can interface allows integration into Victron system networks for monitoring and control.
Key Features
- Maximum PV input voltage of 250V, allowing longer PV strings with fewer parallel runs.
- 70A maximum charge current output, suitable for larger battery banks in off-grid and backup systems.
- VE.Can interface enables connection to Victron GX devices, Color Control GX, and other VE.Can-compatible equipment for full system monitoring.
- True MPPT algorithm continuously tracks the maximum power point of the solar array, maximising energy harvest across varying irradiance and temperature conditions.
- TR (screw terminal) connection type for secure, permanent wiring in fixed installations.
- Compatible with a wide range of battery chemistries including lead-acid (flooded, AGM, gel) and lithium-ion where appropriate charge profiles are configured.
- Built-in load output control and battery protection functions to manage connected DC loads.
Product Overview
The 250V maximum input voltage rating is the defining specification for system design. It allows installers to wire PV modules in longer series strings, which reduces cable losses and simplifies array wiring compared to lower-voltage controllers. At 70A output, this controller can deliver substantial charge power to a battery bank, with the actual wattage depending on the battery voltage of the system (for example, a 48V system yields up to approximately 3,360W of charge power from this unit alone).
The VE.Can bus is Victron's CAN-based communication network. Connecting this controller to a GX device (such as a Cerbo GX) gives full visibility of PV yield, battery state, charge current and controller status through the VRM portal or a local display. In multi-controller installations, several VE.Can devices can be daisy-chained on the same bus, which is a practical advantage on larger sites with multiple charge sources. The TR terminal block design is intended for permanent, fixed wiring rather than MC4 or other plug-in connectors, which is appropriate for professional panel or enclosure mounting.
Charge algorithm configuration is handled via the VictronConnect app over Bluetooth (if a VE.Direct Bluetooth dongle is used) or directly through a connected GX device. This allows precise setting of absorption voltage, float voltage, equalisation parameters and battery type to match the specific battery bank in use.

Applications
- Large off-grid solar systems with 24V or 48V battery banks requiring high charge current.
- Professional Victron system builds where VE.Can network integration and centralised monitoring via a GX device are required.
- Marine and vehicle installations using high-voltage PV arrays where a single high-current controller is preferred over multiple smaller units.
- Commercial and agricultural off-grid sites with significant daily energy demand and large PV arrays.
- Multi-controller installations where several MPPT units are networked together on a VE.Can bus.
What Is Included
- Victron BlueSolar MPPT 250/70-Tr VE.Can charge controller (1 unit)
Installation Notes
This controller operates at PV voltages up to 250V DC, which is a hazardous voltage level. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited solar installer with experience in high-voltage DC systems. Ensure PV string open-circuit voltage does not exceed 250V under any temperature conditions, including cold-weather peak voltage. Battery and PV wiring must be correctly fused and sized for 70A continuous current. VE.Can connections require appropriate RJ45 termination and a 120-ohm terminator at each end of the CAN bus. Consult Victron's system design guidelines and local wiring regulations before commissioning.
