Description
xVictron Argodiode 80-2AC Battery Isolator 2 Batteries 80A
The Victron Argodiode 80-2AC is a diode-based battery isolator designed to charge two separate battery banks simultaneously from a single alternator or charger, without allowing current to flow between them. It is suited to marine, vehicle and off-grid applications where battery bank isolation is required without the complexity of relay-based systems.
Key Features
- Isolates two battery banks from a single charging source using Schottky diodes, preventing cross-discharge between banks.
- Rated at 80A continuous current, suitable for medium-duty alternator and charger installations.
- 2AC configuration provides two isolated outputs from a single input, each capable of carrying the full rated current.
- Schottky diode construction reduces forward voltage drop compared to standard silicon diodes, minimising charging losses.
- Compact and lightweight at 0.606 kg, with no moving parts and no maintenance requirements.
- Passive operation: no control wiring, relays or external power supply required.
Product Overview
Diode isolators work by allowing current to flow in one direction only. The Argodiode 80-2AC accepts a single input from an alternator or battery charger and splits it across two output terminals, each connected to a separate battery bank. Because diodes block reverse current, neither battery can discharge into the other, and a fault or deep discharge on one bank will not affect the other.
The Schottky diode design used in the Argodiode series produces a lower forward voltage drop than conventional silicon diodes. This is relevant in alternator-based systems because the voltage drop across the isolator effectively reduces the charging voltage seen by the batteries. In practice, the alternator output voltage should be set approximately 0.5V to 0.6V higher than normal to compensate. This adjustment is straightforward on vehicles or vessels where the alternator regulator is accessible.
The 80A rating covers the total input current. Both output banks share this capacity, so the installer should confirm that the combined load from both banks during charging does not exceed 80A. The unit requires no external control wiring and generates no switching noise, making it a reliable choice where simplicity and long service life are priorities.

What Is Included
- 1 x Victron Argodiode 80-2AC battery isolator
Installation Notes
The Argodiode 80-2AC should be installed by a qualified electrician or competent marine/vehicle electrical engineer. Ensure the input cable and both output cables are correctly rated for the current involved and that appropriate fusing is fitted on each output. If the unit is fed from a vehicle alternator, the alternator regulator voltage should be increased by approximately 0.5V to 0.6V to compensate for the diode voltage drop and ensure the batteries receive a full charge. Mount the unit on a solid surface with adequate ventilation, as the heatsink will become warm under load. Do not enclose the unit in a sealed space without provision for heat dissipation.
