Description
xVictron Energy 6V 240Ah AGM Deep Cycle Battery
The Victron Energy 6V 240Ah AGM Deep Cycle Battery is a sealed, maintenance-free lead-acid battery designed for cyclic applications in off-grid solar, backup power and marine systems. Rated at 240Ah capacity at the C20 rate, it suits installations where reliable deep discharge performance is required over an extended service life.
Key Features
- 240Ah capacity rated at C20, providing a consistent and predictable discharge curve for system sizing.
- AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) construction eliminates free electrolyte, making the battery spill-proof and safe for use in enclosed or tilted installations.
- Deep cycle design built to withstand repeated charge and discharge cycles, unlike standard standby batteries.
- Sealed, valve-regulated (VRLA) construction requires no water topping or electrolyte maintenance.
- 6V nominal voltage allows series configuration to build 12V, 24V or 48V battery banks to suit a wide range of inverter and charge controller systems.
- 30.5kg weight reflects the substantial plate mass used in deep cycle AGM construction, contributing to cycle life performance.
- Manufactured by Victron Energy, with full compatibility with Victron MPPT charge controllers and MultiPlus/Quattro inverter-chargers when programmed with the correct AGM charge profile.
Product Overview
AGM deep cycle batteries differ from standard AGM standby batteries in their plate thickness and active material composition. Thicker plates allow deeper discharges without the accelerated plate degradation that would occur in a standby-rated cell. Victron's deep cycle AGM range is designed for daily cycling, making it appropriate for off-grid solar installations where the battery is regularly discharged and recharged.
At 6V nominal, these batteries are typically used in pairs (series) to form a 12V bank, or in groups of four or eight for 24V and 48V systems respectively. This approach increases the total amp-hour capacity of each series string compared to using multiple smaller 12V units, and is a common configuration in larger off-grid and marine installations. When sizing a bank, the C20 rating of 240Ah should be used as the baseline; actual usable capacity will depend on discharge rate and temperature.
AGM chemistry is compatible with standard three-stage (bulk, absorption, float) charge profiles. For use with Victron charge controllers and inverter-chargers, the AGM preset or a custom voltage profile should be selected to avoid overcharging, which is the primary cause of premature AGM battery failure. The sealed construction means any overcharge-related gassing cannot be replenished, making correct charge voltage critical.

Installation Notes
Battery installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced solar installer. When configuring series or parallel battery banks, ensure all batteries are of the same type, age and state of charge before connection. AGM batteries must not be charged with a gel or wet-cell profile; use the correct AGM charge voltage settings on all connected charge sources. Adequate ventilation is recommended even for sealed batteries, as valve-regulated cells can vent gas under fault conditions. For off-grid solar systems, installation by an MCS-accredited installer is recommended where applicable.
