Description
xVictron Energy 12V 8Ah AGM Deep Cycle Battery
The Victron Energy 12V 8Ah AGM Deep Cycle Battery is a sealed, maintenance-free lead-acid battery rated at C20 capacity. It is suited to small off-grid systems, UPS applications, solar charge storage, and any installation where a compact, reliable AGM cell is required. The absorbed glass mat construction eliminates the need for electrolyte topping and allows installation in any orientation.
Key Features
- 12V nominal voltage with 8Ah capacity rated at the C20 discharge rate.
- AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) construction: sealed, valve-regulated, and maintenance-free.
- Deep cycle design tolerates repeated charge and discharge cycles better than standard standby batteries.
- Can be installed in any orientation due to the sealed, spill-proof construction.
- Compact and lightweight at 2.32 kg, suitable for space-constrained enclosures and portable equipment.
- Manufactured by Victron Energy, a specialist in battery and power conversion equipment for professional installations.
Product Overview
AGM deep cycle batteries differ from standard flooded lead-acid cells in that the electrolyte is absorbed into a fibreglass mat separator rather than held as free liquid. This makes them spill-proof, reduces gassing under normal charge conditions, and allows the battery to be mounted on its side or end if the installation demands it. The valve-regulated design means no periodic water top-up is required, which is an important consideration in remote or unattended installations.
The C20 rating means the 8Ah capacity is measured over a 20-hour discharge period. In practice, drawing current faster than this rate will reduce the usable capacity, which is normal behaviour for lead-acid chemistry. For small solar systems, alarm panels, UPS units, and similar low-draw applications, the 8Ah C20 rating is a realistic working figure. At 2.32 kg, this battery is straightforward to handle and transport without specialist lifting equipment.
Victron AGM batteries are designed to work directly with Victron charge controllers and inverter-chargers, but the standard 12V AGM chemistry is compatible with any charger set to an appropriate AGM charge profile. Correct charge voltage settings are essential to maximise cycle life and avoid premature capacity loss.

Installation Notes
This battery should be charged using a charger with a compatible AGM charge profile. Do not use an unregulated charger or a charger set to a flooded lead-acid profile, as incorrect charge voltages will shorten battery life. For integration into solar or inverter systems, connection should be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited installer. Ensure adequate ventilation in the installation area even though AGM batteries produce minimal gas under normal conditions. Terminals should be protected against short circuit at all times during handling and installation.
