Description
xVictron Energy 12V 60Ah Gel Deep Cycle Battery
The Victron Energy 12V 60Ah Gel Deep Cycle Battery is a sealed, maintenance-free battery designed for cyclic and standby applications in solar, off-grid and marine systems. Its gel electrolyte construction makes it suitable for installations where battery orientation or ventilation is restricted. Rated at C20 capacity, it is built for repeated deep discharge and recharge cycles.
Key Features
- 60Ah capacity rated at C20 discharge rate, providing a reliable baseline for system sizing.
- Gel electrolyte construction eliminates free liquid acid, reducing the risk of spillage and corrosion in confined or tilted installations.
- Sealed, valve-regulated (VRLA) design requires no water topping and produces minimal gas under normal operating conditions.
- Deep cycle rated, meaning the battery is designed to withstand repeated discharge to low state-of-charge levels without premature capacity loss.
- 12V nominal voltage, compatible with standard 12V charge controllers, inverters and battery monitors.
- 18kg weight provides a compact energy density suitable for mobile, marine and off-grid enclosures.
Product Overview
Gel batteries use a silica-based gelled electrolyte rather than free liquid acid. This immobilises the electrolyte, which means the battery can be mounted in any orientation except inverted, and is less susceptible to vibration damage than flooded lead-acid alternatives. In solar and off-grid applications, where batteries may sit in unventilated enclosures or vehicle-mounted battery boxes, this matters practically.
The C20 rating means the 60Ah capacity is measured over a 20-hour discharge period. In practice, drawing higher currents over shorter periods will reduce the available capacity, which is standard behaviour for lead-acid chemistry. When sizing a system, use the C20 figure as the starting point and apply a derating factor for high-current loads. Victron's gel range is designed to work directly with Victron charge controllers and inverter-chargers, which include gel-specific charge profiles to protect cycle life.
As a VRLA battery, it recombines the gases produced during charging internally under normal conditions. This makes it suitable for use in enclosed spaces, though adequate ventilation is still recommended as a precaution, particularly if the battery may be subject to overcharging.

Installation Notes
This battery should be installed by a qualified electrician or experienced system integrator. Ensure the charge source (solar charge controller, inverter-charger or mains charger) is set to the correct gel charge profile. Using an AGM or flooded charge profile risks overcharging, which can permanently damage gel cells. Batteries should be installed in a ventilated location away from heat sources and direct flame. Terminal connections must be torqued correctly and protected against short circuit. For solar PV system installations, use an MCS-accredited installer where required by your DNO or insurer.
