Description
xVictron Energy 12V 220Ah AGM Deep Cycle Battery
The Victron Energy 12V 220Ah AGM Deep Cycle Battery is a sealed, maintenance-free lead-acid battery rated at C20 capacity. It is designed for cyclic applications in solar, off-grid, marine and backup power systems where reliable deep discharge performance is required.
Key Features
- 220Ah capacity rated at C20 discharge rate, providing a realistic usable capacity figure for deep cycle applications.
- Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) construction eliminates free electrolyte, making the battery spill-proof and suitable for installation in confined or enclosed spaces.
- Sealed, valve-regulated design requires no water topping and produces minimal gassing under normal charge conditions.
- 12V nominal voltage, compatible with standard 12V charge controllers, inverters and battery management systems.
- Heavy-duty construction with a 62.5 kg build, reflecting the high lead content associated with genuine deep cycle performance.
- Victron Energy manufacture, with consistent quality control and full compatibility with Victron charge controllers, inverters and battery monitors.
Product Overview
AGM deep cycle batteries differ from standard standby (float) batteries in their plate thickness and active material density. Thicker plates allow the battery to withstand repeated deep discharge and recharge cycles without the accelerated plate degradation that would occur in a battery designed purely for standby use. The C20 rating means the 220Ah figure is measured over a 20-hour discharge period, which is the standard reference point for solar and off-grid sizing calculations.
The AGM separator holds the electrolyte in suspension against the plates rather than allowing it to pool freely. This construction improves charge acceptance, reduces internal resistance compared to flooded equivalents, and allows the battery to be installed in any orientation except inverted. It also means no acid spillage risk during transport or installation, which is a practical consideration on marine vessels or in vehicle-based systems.
Victron AGM Deep Cycle batteries are designed to work within the Victron ecosystem. They respond correctly to Victron's recommended charge profiles (bulk, absorption, float) and are recognised by Victron Battery Monitors and BMV units when configured appropriately. This makes them a straightforward choice for installers already working with Victron inverter-chargers or MPPT charge controllers.

Installation Notes
At 62.5 kg, this battery requires two people or mechanical handling equipment for safe positioning. Ensure the installation location provides adequate ventilation, even though AGM batteries produce minimal gas under normal conditions. Use correctly rated cable, fusing and terminal hardware for a 12V high-capacity battery bank. For solar PV and off-grid system installations, connection by a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited installer is recommended. When configuring charge parameters, use Victron's published charge profile for AGM Deep Cycle batteries to avoid undercharging or overcharging, both of which reduce cycle life.
