Description
xVictron Energy 12V 170Ah AGM Super Cycle Battery (M8 Terminals)
The Victron Energy AGM Super Cycle 12V 170Ah battery is a deep-cycle lead-acid battery designed for applications where repeated deep discharges are unavoidable. It is built for solar storage, marine, and off-grid systems where a standard AGM battery would degrade quickly under regular deep cycling. The M8 threaded insert terminals provide a secure, bolt-down connection suited to professional installations.
Key Features
- 12V nominal voltage with 170Ah capacity, offering substantial energy storage in a single unit.
- AGM Super Cycle chemistry tolerates deeper and more frequent discharge cycles than standard AGM batteries, extending service life in demanding applications.
- M8 threaded insert terminals allow bolt-down cable connections, reducing the risk of poor contact or terminal damage compared to post-type terminals.
- Valve-regulated, sealed construction: maintenance-free and suitable for installation in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces.
- Compatible with the full range of Victron Energy chargers, inverter/chargers and battery monitors when configured with the correct AGM charge profile.
- 45 kg unit weight reflects the high-capacity lead-acid construction; installation planning should account for structural load and handling requirements.
Product Overview
Standard AGM batteries are rated for a limited number of deep discharge cycles before capacity begins to degrade significantly. The Super Cycle range addresses this by using a modified plate design and electrolyte formulation that allows discharges down to 20% state of charge on a regular basis without the same rate of capacity loss. This makes the 170Ah Super Cycle a practical choice for solar off-grid systems where the battery bank is cycled daily and full recharge cannot always be guaranteed.
The M8 threaded insert terminals are a practical detail that matters in professional installations. Unlike standard lead post terminals, the threaded inserts accept M8 bolts directly, giving a consistent torque-controlled connection that holds securely over time and through vibration. This is particularly relevant in marine and vehicle applications. The sealed AGM construction means no acid spillage risk and no topping up of electrolyte, and the battery can be installed in any orientation except inverted.
When used with a Victron MPPT charge controller or MultiPlus inverter/charger, the charge parameters should be set to match Victron's published AGM Super Cycle charge profile. Using a standard AGM profile will not damage the battery but may not fully optimise cycle life. A battery monitor such as the Victron BMV series is recommended to track state of charge accurately, as lead-acid batteries require careful management to achieve their rated cycle count.

Installation Notes
At 45 kg, this battery requires two people or mechanical assistance to position safely. Ensure the installation surface can support the weight, particularly in marine or vehicle applications. M8 bolts and appropriate cable lugs are required for terminal connections and are not supplied with the battery. Connect and configure charging equipment to the correct AGM Super Cycle voltage parameters before commissioning. For solar PV and inverter/charger installations, connection by a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited installer is recommended. Always follow local electrical regulations and battery handling guidelines when working with large lead-acid batteries.
