Product Overview
VE.Direct is Victron's proprietary one-to-one serial communication protocol used across a wide range of their products. The VE.Direct to USB interface acts as a protocol bridge, translating that serial data stream into a standard USB connection that any modern computer can read. This makes it the standard tool for on-site commissioning, where an installer needs to adjust charge parameters, check live data or push a firmware update without needing a GX device or network connection.
The interface is particularly useful during initial system setup, where direct access to a single device is needed before a full monitoring solution is in place. It is also commonly used for troubleshooting, allowing a technician to pull real-time data directly from an MPPT controller or battery monitor on a laptop in the field. The cable is not intended for permanent installation as a monitoring solution — for that, a GX device or VE.Direct to USB connection via a Raspberry Pi running Venus OS would be more appropriate.

Installation Notes
This interface is a configuration and monitoring accessory, not a power or charge cable. Connect it to the VE.Direct port on the target device and to a free USB port on your computer before opening VictronConnect. No drivers are typically required on modern operating systems, though it is advisable to check Victron's software release notes for the latest VictronConnect version before use. This cable does not provide a persistent data connection for remote monitoring — a dedicated GX device is required for that purpose.
