Description
x3M Primer 94 Adhesion Promoter for VHB Tape – 236ml
3M Primer 94 is a trusted adhesion promoter designed for use with VHB (Very High Bond) tapes on critical or low-energy surfaces. It prepares the substrate by cleaning, activating, and optimising the surface chemistry before tape application, delivering a stronger and more reliable bond on materials including metal, glass, plastic, wood, concrete, and painted surfaces.
Key Features
- Adhesion promoter for use with 3M VHB and other high-strength bonding tapes
- Suitable for metal, glass, PE, PP, ABS, PET/PBT blends, concrete, wood, and painted metal
- Removes contaminants and activates surface energy for improved tape contact
- Enhances chemical interaction between tape and substrate
- Essential for low-energy or challenging surfaces where tape alone may not achieve full bond strength
- Supplied in a 236ml tin
Product Overview
When bonding with VHB tapes, surface preparation is critical. Even on apparently clean metal or painted surfaces, residual oils, moisture, or surface oxidation can significantly reduce bond strength over time. Applying 3M Primer 94 before the tape ensures the surface is properly activated and contaminant-free, maximising the long-term adhesion performance of the tape.
Before applying the primer, clean contaminated surfaces with a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water using a clean, lint-free cloth. Allow the surface to dry completely before applying the primer and allow the primer to dry before applying the tape.
Applications
- Solar panel rail and mounting tape installations on metal and sandwich panel roofs
- VHB tape bonding on painted metal, glass, and plastic substrates
- Signage, construction, and automotive assembly applications
- Any application where VHB tape is used on a low-energy or challenging surface
Installation and Safety Notes
Use in a well-ventilated area. Keep away from heat sources and open flame. Allow primer to dry fully before applying tape. Follow the 3M product data sheet for full application guidance and safety information. For solar mounting applications, ensure the tape and primer are rated for the expected load, wind uplift, and temperature range of the installation.
